[rec.arts.startrek.info] British Commercials using ST theme

Jim,

You might be interested in this info for rec.arts.startrek.info.

I was watching the BBC 9 O'clock news last night and they did a piece
on the privatisation of the two national electricity generating companies,
National Power and Powergen, by the British Government.

The advertising campaign is to be based on ST and it looked as though
William Shatner and James Doohan at least were appearing. The news item
only showed a few seconds of the TV commercial but it looked as though they
were using shots from the films plus some original material shot
specially for the commercial. The original stuff looked pretty well
done (ie. expensive).

The idea behind this particular commercial was that the Enterprise was in
trouble and Scotty was shouting for more power. Suddenly a grey suited
fellow jumps from out of shot and offers Scotty shares in one of the
electricity companies (something like that anyway).

The thing that really hurt was that the reporter stated that the
government was using a STAR WARS theme to sell the shares. Some cockup
considering that the BBC is the company which carries ST anyway.

Cheers,

Andy
