[rec.arts.startrek.info] British ST commercial for the Electricity shares issue

jimmy@pyra.co.uk (Jimmy Aitken) (01/15/91)

The Government issued commercials to publicise the privatisation of
the two power generating companies is based on ST (as stated before).
However, it's a strange combination of the Film & TV. The Enterprise
as seen in the opening shot, is from The Film Series (TFS) although I don't
recognise the shot. However, the interal scenes with Scotty at the
"Transporter" (really a station in the Engineering section) are most
definitely from the new series with the warp tower in the background.

The transporter effect looks like from TFS, but the platform is
certainly from TNG. The basic plot is Kirk (looking slightly grey
haired) is under fire from something on a planet's surface and says,
"Beam us up Scotty." Scotty then beams down an umbrella which appears
in Kirk's hand. Kirk retorts, "Not a brolly, you wally. Beam us up."
Scotty tries and eventally beams up Kirk and a female member of the
team leaving two on the planet while muttering something like, "I need
more power." When they materialize, Kirk & the female member of the
crew seem to have exchanged heads or else they changed uniforms and
Kirk has grown a bust. The female crewmember then punches Kirk in the
face.

At this point Simon Cadell (seen in the early series of "Hi-De-Hi")
appears and tells us about the share floatation. The commercial lasts
about 1 minute and will no doubt get every bit as tiring as the
pervious set of commercials for the privatisation of the electricity
distribution copmpanies.
