[rec.arts.startrek.info] ST:TNG and AT40

brown@vidiot.UUCP (Vidiot) (01/31/91)

Well, the weekend is over and the AT40 (American Top 40) syndicated radio
countdown program has been aired. The four hours of AT40 were done with a
ST:TNG theme in mind. There were interviews with the various cast members,
some of them humorous.

I currently have the AT40 CDs in my grubby little paws, but they have to
be returned to the station, since the PD (program directory) wants to hang
on to them. I hope to get them from him permanently in the future (slim to
none chance). When I went in to talk to him today, to try and get them from
him, he wondered why they would do the program on the set. I explained to
him that it was typical radio hype, ie, there were location interviews, but
everything was put together in the Watermark studio. To think that he is
a radio man and didn't know that.

The box they came in is marked with a nice large red background sticker
claiming this program as a "Collectors Edition". The strange thing about
this statement is that these discs are NOT supposed to get into the hands
of the public. Ya, right :-) I can say for certain that if the other PD
was still PD, I'd have the discs permanently.

Anyway, the CDs aren't cheaply labeled either. Each of the discs are the
same, in that they are all picture discs with a photo of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
It is the same artwork currently used on the ST:TNG letterhead and press
releases. The picture covers the top third of the disc. The bottom 2/3s
contain the ST:TNG logo in light blue, the AT40 logo and the disc info.

I took some test photos of the discs tonight. I have to get indoor color
film. The outdoor film was a little tough to color correct. I have a copy
stand, so that isn't a problem. I will be reshooting the CDs tomorrow.
Depending on how they turn out, I may make available 4x5 prints, for a
total cost of about $1.00, to cover prints and postage. It depends if I
can get a 10 cent/picture reprint cost, if I print enough of them. Remember,
there are four discs. The discs are exactly the same except for the disc
number.

Don't ask about getting cassette copies of the CDs, since I will have a
master metal cassette set made for myself, but I don't have the facilities
to make copies of the cassettes. I only have one deck that has Dolby C
and the other metal deck is having drive problems. Maybe something can
happen in the future, so don't lose hope.

Watermark is correct that this will be a highly prized ST:TNG collectable.
I just wish that I could keep these discs, instead of photocopies of the
timing sheets and photos of the discs. :-( :-( If you manage to get your
hands on this set, KEEP IT.
