I talked to a friend of mine this evening who attended the NYC Creation "The Two Captains" Con this past weekend, and I've got little bits of news, mixed in with some stories. Non-spoiler stuff first: Remember episode 100 of TNG, which thanks to a little creative renumbering is the season finale for this season. Well, it's being directed by someone you may find interesting: Patrick Stewart. The exchange went something like this, as I gather: Both Stewart and Shatner were on stage, and someone asked Stewart about directing. Stewart said rather modestly, "why, yes, I will be directing a TNG episode...episode 100, in fact..." He then turned to Shatner and said, completely straight-faced, "And if you've got any tips, Bill..." Laughter ensued, and Shatner started screaming at the audience, "I don't have to take this shit!!!!" This pretty much confirms my impressions of BOTH actors--Stewart's got a wicked sense of humor when he tries, and Shatner's a boob. :-) In other news, Star Trek VI is a go. There seems to be no working subtitle as yet--when asked, Shatner joked "Star Trek VI: The Last One". I know that if I'd been there, I would _definitely_ have yelled out "The APOLOGY!!!", just for the audience reaction. Shatner said that no one is killed off, but that the closing scene does bring a sense of finality to "the Star Trek legend", and that it brought tears to his eyes. I imagine he loses his toupee. :-) Now, some mild spoilers: Richard "Smeg-Head" Arnold was also in attendance, and mentioned something about some upcoming episodes: --for "Galaxy's Child", the Enterprise's killing of the living space-creature is definitely accidental. It reaches out to grab the ship, and to repel it, Picard orders absolutely _minimal_ phaser fire for about a millisecond. It's too much. I hate when that happens. --for the upcoming Geordi story (I've forgotten the title): apparently, five years ago, Geordi was on a rescue team of 5, answering a distress call of about 50 colonists. They arrived, and found NO ONE at all. Now, 3 of those 5 people have very recently swiped ships and headed back to that planet for no apparent reason. The fourth is Geordi, and the fifth is his friend, now a starship captain. She (yes, SHE) and Geordi end up taking the Enterprise there, and then, "Things get seriously weird." Sounds intriguing... --Picard, in an upcoming show, will have to face accusations about having broken/bent the Prime Directive. Apparently, continuity is _impressively_ tight in this show. We'll see. That's all I can remember--but I *loved* the Shatner bit. Chuckle.
