Hi Jim, just a few tidbits from the Austin con that took place yesterday. All of this is from memory ... There was a tribute to Star Trek in the form of a slide show. A slide came up with Judson Scott (Joachim in STII) and it was said that he was Kahn's son. (I don't remember who was doing the slide show) Info from Eric Stillwell (one of the authors of "Yesterday's Enterprise") Fifth season: they are just starting to work on the fifth season. No details except Q will be back as well as Troi's mother. Eric made some comments that basically said the novels are not canon. He did not use the word canon but that is what he meant. Richard Arnold was mentioned in passing as the guy who "checks" the novels out. Marina Sirtis and Jonathon Frakes: Marina would like her character to do more than just say "He's hiding something". She said that she just found out that Troi is a Lt. Commander but there is no place on her uniform for the pips. She would also like to be in command of the Enterprise for an episode. The reason Whoppi Goldberg doesn't appear more often is due to all the people that want her for movies. She apparently isn't getting paid that much for ST and does it because she likes it. Whoopi is in ST VI. Marina said that there will be a Star Trek VII but it will have the TNG cast in it. The reason K'ehylr was killed off was to provide some character growth for Worf. Also they said the reason that Alexander (Worf's son) didn't stay on board was so they could have a show about him later. And once again the TOS TNG connection was brought up. But now mention was made of having William Shatner on a TNG episode as well as Nimoy! Of course there are money considerations. Marina also said there is some resentment from the TOS cast toward the TNG cast because the TNG cast makes more money. No names were mentioned. The resentment has been decreasing. Both Jonathon and Marina enjoyed giving each other a hard time. Jonathon made comments about body oil and alien lovers. The question of romance between Troi and Riker and Bev and Jean-Luc came up.
