Title : Spiner Interview

I don't know if someone hasn't already announced the following to the
echo, but if by some chance they haven't, here goes.

Brent Spiner (Data) gave an interview that appeared in the Houston
Chronicle last week. Spiner was in town visiting his mother (he is
originally from Houston).

A number of different points were covered in the interview, such as
his (Spiner's) just released record album, the grueling pace
required to make the show, his desire that more conflict be written
into the stories next season (conflict between the main characters), etc.

He stated that the cast was under contract for two more seasons. While
this was not said outright, the strong implication was that after the
season after next, that would be it. He did say that if ST VI made
"one dollar more that it cost to make", that after taking a year off,
they would almost certainly come back to make a TNG movie. He also implied
that he (Spiner) may not participate, unless some special considerations
(such as letting him direct) were given him. He mentions that Nimoy
didn't want to do ST III, but after he was offered the job of director,
he changed his mind. Spiner also expressed a desire to direct.

It was mentioned that Michael Dorn (Worf) is participating in the ST VI
movie, wherein he plays Worf's grandfather. Spiner also commented that
this is definitely the LAST TOS movie. He mentions that Shatner will
make a little speech where he says that ""it's time to turn it over to
the next generation", or something sutle like that" (Spiner).

Spiner says that the cast are all "one big family", and that they are
friends. Wil Wheaton (Wesley) will probably make a few appearances in the
following seasons, as will Whoopie Goldberg. Her increased demand in the
wake of her Oscar for "Ghost", has not stopped her participation, although
she will appear in only five or six episodes next year. During the filming
of a given episode, (which generally takes a week) she is only present for
one day's shooting. Data's evil twin, Lore will also be back.

The final episode this season will be another cliffhanger, this time
involving Worf (I would suspect that he (Worf) is going to settle
accounts with some people back on the Klingon homeworld...B-).
