I recently purchased a used Okimate 20 printer and am very pleased with the output with a couple of exceptions. The colors are excellent, but the gaps between scan lines are a bit annoying. I printed one of the sample DBWRender files I got from ftp of several glass spheres in a brick room. The mortar lines in the brick were not quite horizontal and so the combination of this with horizontal white gaps in the output made for a bizarre effect. QUESTION ONE: IS THERE A WAY TO MINIMIZE THIS GAP PROBLEM?? I AM USING A MEMOREX THERMAL TRANSFER PAPER WITH SPROCKET HOLES. Now to my main problem. I printed another DBWRender image of balloons over rippled water. I got the now-all-to-familiar gaps between scan lines, but in the region of the picture which is supposed to be a constant color (part of the sky), I noticed that, for each individual scan line of color (~1 cm thick) that there was a gradation of intensity from top to botton. Thus, the top of the strip was much darker than the bottom, even though the color was the same. This has the unfortunate result of EMPHASIZING the gaps already present in the image since the bottom of one strip is much lighter than the top of the next strip below it. So, even if I could get rid of the gaps, I would be able to see the borders between strips. QUESTION(S) TWO: COULD THIS BE A PROBLEM WITH A DIRTY PRINTER HEAD? CAN ANYONE SUGGEST A WAY TO CONFIRM THIS? IF IT IS THE PRINTER HEAD, HOW DO I CLEAN/FIX IT? Any comments would be appreciated. I hope that this is an appropriate subject for comp.sys.amiga.hardware. If not, please let me know. Thanks, Scott Sutherland sutherla@qtp.ufl.edu
