[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] A500 and Agnus

king@cell.mot.COM (Steven King) (02/18/90)

(Forgive me if I've already asked this, but our newsfeed has been down for
the past 10 days or more and any answers fell into the bit bucket...)

I'm the happy owner of a brand-spanking new 2 Meg of memory for my A500,
bringing the total to 3 Meg. I hear tell (from this very group) that
*if* I've got a recent incarnation of Overweight Agnus I can enable it by
cutting a trace to use a full meg of memory as chip RAM. Now the questions:

     1) How do I tell if it's there? I assume I pop the hood and look
at a part number on the chip. Which chip (or is it intuitively
obvious once I get in there?) and what part number?

     2) Assuming I have the proper chip, exactly what is the modification
needed to take advantage of it? (Don't worry, I'm quite handy
with soldering iron and X-acto knife... :-)

     3) Assuming I *don't* have the proper chip, where can I get it?

Thanks in advance, eh!
