[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] 8520 and floppy problems

shawn@jdyx.UUCP (Shawn Hayes) (02/18/90)

After discussing my occasional problem with my 2500's internal floppy drive
I've come to think that it may be due to to a bad 8520 chip. In looking at the hardware diagrams it appears that the 8520 that controls the internal floppy
drive also controls the serial port. Is that correct and, if so, why doesn't
the problem cause problems with HST modem?

Everything I hear from other people makes it sound like the problem I have should be caused by the 8520, but I can't understand why it doesn't affect the modem. BTW, to recap, my internal drive will sometimes decide that every disk
I put in it is a bad disk. The only way to correct the problem is to either
do a cold/warm reboot. Sometimes it fixes the problem and other times, it
doesn't.

If anyone can help, please comment in this newsgroup. I think it could
help other people who run into these strange problems.
