eugene@ames.UUCP (Eugene Miya) (04/09/85)

SENIOR SPACE SCIENTISTS

NASA is recruiting for a Senior Space Scientist (GS 14/15) to serve as the
Deputy Chief of the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Program
Office. The Selected candidate will work with the Office Chief in developing
the entire program strategy for SETI. The program is concerned with:
designing and testing signal processing systems; investigating problems of
radio frequency interference; developing algorithms and software for signal
processing; and developing SETI observational requirements.

The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D in the physical sciences or engineering;
experiences in the administration of research programs or technical
projects; and a knowledge of electromagnetism, radio propagation, digital
signal processing, information theory, and radio astronomy.
U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED.

SPACE SCIENTISTS

NASA is recruiting for three Space Scientists for the SETI (Search for
Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Program. The positions are:

Signal Processing Expert (GS 13/14)- Candidate will assist in the design,
construction, and procurement of extensive signal processing equipment.
This includes guiding and integrating the design of all the signal
processing hardware and software that comprise the spectral analysis and
pattern recognition systems for SETI.

Signal Detection Algorithm Expert (GS 13/14)- Candidate is responsible
for the development of algorithms assuring the highest probability of
detecting patterns and spectral anomalies created by various putative
signals in the presence of noise. This includes developing automatic
procedures verifying or disproving the extraterrestrial nature of signals,
and testing algorithms under actual field conditions.

Radio Astronomer (GS 12/13)- Candidate will assist in planning, directing and
executing SETI observations, including management of signal acquisition
and recognition software; optimal scheduling algorithms; arranging SETI
observing schedules with radio observatories; and evaluating and
pursuing radio-astronomical discoveries that may occur in the SETI
observing program or through the use of SETI signal processing equipment.

Candidate should have graduate-level education in the physical sciences
or engineering; experience in signal processing hardware and software,
signal processing algorithms, detection detection, and computer programming,
as appropriate.
U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED.
