[Food for t I have developed an interesting problem with one of my hard drives and can not seem to find the solution. I have a 2nd ST-506 hd connected (its a Miniscribe 20 meg). It has already been formated with a FFS partition (6-611) and the CBM required (old)FS (2-5) plus the reserved 2 tracks (0-2). Im using a CBM 2090A controller. Recently I have had several read/write error messages. I decided to backup the drive and reformat it. Well ive tried PREP'ing the drive, changing the mountlist size for the FFS part. Just about everything. But no matter how many times I format the drive - the old files are -still- there! The PREP commands says the drive is preped, I then reboot and do a format (not QUICK) and it actualy goes through each cylinder. However when its done the drive is as before. Any ideas? Please post or mail to the account below as the HD thats wacky is my UseNet/UUCP drive :-( Sneakers -- Dan "Sneakers" Schein Here: sneakers@cbmvax Guest @ Commodore International Ltd. ____ Home: sneakers%heimat@commodore.com / / / / / / Quote: Those who work the hardest BERKS AMIGA BBS ____ / / / are the last to surrender. 24 Hrs - 12/2400 Baud \ \ \ / / / 105 Megs - 215/372-4553 \ \ \ / / Gary Ward (Oklahoma State baseball)

Dan maybe I missed something, but are you low level formating the drive on an IBM system? If not, low level format on an IBM system using Disk Manager by OnTrack or a similar program, this will allow you to reformat the first 2 cyclinders and remove the information, the format programs for the 2090 or 2090A are not capable of doing a lowlevel format using mfm drives...SCSIs are a different story....Mike Miller -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ AFIT Amiga Users BBS/UFGateway |Mike Miller - via FidoNet node 1:110/300 1:110/300 Dayton, Ohio |UUCP: uunet!dayvb!afitamy!210!Mike.Miller (513)-252-7681 |ARPA: Mike.Miller@f210.n110.z1.FIDONET.ORG ------------------------------------------------------------------------
