I have a problem with my A590 which is getting more and more annoying. The drive data: Epson XT 20 MB 60 ms access Model: HMD-755-002-001 612 cyls 17 sect/track 4 heads The trouble is (and I'm quite sure of this) is that the drive parks itself 'stuck' approx. 60% of the times I shut the system off. When I start again, the drive simply can't remove the drive heads from the park position. This appies if the machine has been off for at least 12 hours. (If I park it and then access the drive immediately without shutting it off, it works of course.) The only 'cure' for this pathetic condition as far as I know is to remove the drive from the expansion port and expose it light shock, preferrably positioned upside down. This treatment has it's drawbacks; right now I have 19 bad blocks in cylinder 611, all of them located at head 0 or 1. Is it possible to fix this, or would it be a good idea to look for a new drive? (I have guarantee left, by the way.) I could stop to park the drive before shutting it off, but I dont't think this is to recommend... Any suggestions or advice are very welcome! Please EMAIL me a copy of any postings, I dont't have time to read news for a week or so.
