I'm looking for some hints on using a Supra SCSI controller (non-Wordsync) with an Adaptec 4070 SCSI/RLL converter and two hard drives (ST-277R and ST-238R). The Adaptec and drives are in an external case with power supply. I got the RLL drives before I got the Supra and was using them on the PC-side of the XT-Bridgeboard with an RLL controller (Adaptec-4079, I think). So, I went with the Adaptec when I finally converted over. I'm currently using Version 1.09e (I think its 'e', but its at home now) of the Supra software. For the most part, its worked rather well, but I have had a couple of problems that I would like to solve: 1. I have been unable to get the Supra Software to format the drives with the MAP Option on. 1/2 to 3/4 thru mapping bad blocks, the system usually freezes. I usually wind up formatting and going. I have formatted the drives using the RLL ctrlr on the Bridge. Is this reliable? Is the format that the Supra does a high or low level format (in other words, does the RLL low level format carryover)? Any hints? 2. Trying to use SupraFormat to format the second drive on the Adaptec causes the system to freeze. I do my formatting with only one drive hooked up at a time as SCSI 0 LUN 0, then rehook them up afterword. Is this reliable? Why might I have trouble with the SCSI 0 LUN 1? 3. What's the difference between using the RLL low level format followed by ADISK with Amiga FORMAT and Supra's FORMAT? Why won't the Supra software recognize a drive formatted by the former technique? I was hoping to format using the RLL ctrlr, then hook it up to the Supra and write new partition information, but, so far, no go. I'm not looking for a detailed discussion, just layman's information. Thanx for any hints. -- =================================================================== David Masterson Consilium, Inc. uunet!cimshop!davidm Mt.
