I'm a little curious for comparison sake...

Does anyone have a ballpark figure as to the Maximum Transfer rate and
Sustainable Transfer rate for the Amiga bus?  Just for comparison, what is the
IBM PC bus speed?

The maximum data transfer rate, which is also the sustainable transfer rate,
is about 3.75 Megabytes/second.  Since the bus supports multiple masters,
this means that a DMA device can transfer data from an I/O port, such as 
SCSI, to memory, at the full 3.75 Megabytes/second.

In theory, the PC-AT bus can go at 4 MB/s.  However, in practice, the 
throughput is actually a maximum of 2 MB/s.  Without multimaster capability,
the bus requires the PC-AT's DMA controller (which takes additional wait
states) or CPU to effect transfers across the bus.  In a sense, most of
the things done on the PC bus work much like the non-DMA things done on 
the Amiga bus.  Not all PC buses will run at 8MHz, and while some are
clocked faster, most things are standardized at either the 4.77MHz rate of
the original PC or the de-facto AT standard of 8MHz.  The AT bus has a
number of other defects avoided by the Amiga bus.
