(The original message was posted to the .tech group, but the thread belongs over here.) Summary of the problem: While trying to boot, the system does not recognize the Workbench disk in DF0:. When the attempt is made to read from the disk, a "klack, klack!" noise is heard instead, followed by the message "Not a DOS disk in unit 0". After popping the disk out and in once or twice, the system correctly accesses the disk and boots normally. Here are the diagnoses that were sent in: 1) Alignment problem. This is most likely the cause of the problem. Correcting the alignment is estimated at ~$50. 2) Agnes problem. Several people reported similar disk drive trouble after reseating the Agnes chip. 3) Dirty drive. This is not the problem, as I use a disk cleaning kit regularly. Most people who had similar trouble and tried to remedy it by cleaning the drive heads reported only temporary success, if any at all. Looks like what I'll do is take it to a local shop and have them check the alignment. I will post a follow-up after I get it back.
