[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] 2 Questions about DiamondScan

Howdy Rick...

Regarding you monitor...

I have the same monitor (Thomson Ultrysync = Mits Diamond Scan).
And I do use it to run my Amiga, IBM/EGA, and VCR/video. There should be 3
switches on the back of your monitor, two on the right, one on the left. One
of the switches on the right should be marked:

   Video -- TTL -- Analog

With that switch, you can run all three types of inputs.
BTW, I have the redmond cable myself, but there is an article in Amazing
Computing on how to make a cable for your/my monitor. Also, if you are
familiar with TTL transistors, it is also quit trivial to make a cable like the
ones supplied by redmond.

Hope that helps

I recently purchased a DiamondScan multisync without knowing it would need
a special cable. I have to wait another week AAARGH! :-) Currently I am
using the monochrome video out on my 2000 and it looks horrible though
barely usable. Should I do something to the signal first?

When I ordered the cable from Redmond they said the cable would use the 25
pin analog port, which surprised me since I thought the Amiga was digital
RGB. But now that I think about it, I realize that I still have the
digital port open for possible use with an EGA card for the Bridgeboard.
Could I put an EGA card in and plug it into the TTL digital jack and
switch between the two without having to futz around with moving cables?
Would this be bad for the monitor or computer? BTW there is a switch on
the back of the DS that switches from video, analog, and digital.

As you can tell I know next to nothing about video and monitors and don't
know anyone who does who wouldn't try to sell me something :-)
