[OK. OK. I'm ready now...] This looks like a pretty good place to mention a product I noticed in QSL, the magazine of Amateur Radio. I don't have the month or page number since I was borrowing the magazine and did a quick copy. The ad page doesn't include that info. Anyway...the product is from AEA (sorry, don't remember the full name but it isn't a company that we see advertise in Amiga computer mags. These guys make accessories for Amateur Radio like tuners and transmitters and stuff). It is called the AVT which stands for Amiga Video Terminal Master SSTV and FAX system. It has 55 slow scan TV modes and includes modes with up to 4096 colors and up to 640 by 400 resolution. Looks like the board isn't a graphics card or frame grabber. 9 FAX modes of up to 1024 by 1200 in 16 grey levels. Inputs are 5 radio, tape recorder, and phone. Images can be cleaned up under software control. Noise can be removed. There is more talk about slow scan tv formats and fax transmissions which I don't understand and won't take space for. Includes lots of other features but doesn't say which are hardware and which software. Includes an ARexx port and the best news is the ad is a full page and touts the product as cheaper than a typical standalone SSTV system even when you don't already have the Amiga! Price is $299.95. Needs a meg and a half minimum and probably an A2000. :) AEA is at 2006 196th St. S.W., Lynnwood, WA. 98036. Phone is (206) 775-7373. Now for my question: Is this product a hot fax machine? Can it do Group 3 (standard FAX) and other stuff too? Is this something that computer magazines should be alerted to? It sounds pretty inexpensive and very capable. Anybody know just what the heck it really is? Dana Bourgeois @ Cup.Portal.Com
