I just purchased a used Quadram Quadjet color ink jet printer. Since I recently sold my A2000 (to get money for an A3000 ;)), I have not been able to test out the print quality on images. I did, however, run the self test. The letters were garbled. I looked in the manual and followed the instructions. Now the letters in all colors come out great. I notice one problem, though, which did NOT go away. At the end of each print line (on the far right side), the printer prints a slightly smeared column of BLACK dots, regardless of what color the text on that line was printed (note: In the self test, the printer prints out the ASCII character set in each of 7 colors (if you call black a color) in the order Red, Green, Yellow, Blue (actually a violet), Magenta, Cyan, and Black. After each of these monochromatic lines the column of black dots is printed.). I assume this is probably some sort of dirty head problem or a slight alignment problem with the print head. However, the printer manual DOES NOT mention how to clean the printer head (or even where exactly it is or what you would have to clean and what solvent to use). Does anyone have a clue as to what my printer's problem is and how to remedy it? Also, I would appreciate any comments from owners of the Quadjet as to its performance (speed, quality of image, etc.). How does it compare to the Xerox 4020 or the HP PaintJet? As soon as I get my A3000 (RSN!! :*) Yeah, right! ;^)) I will be able to test it myself. I bought it as an alternative to my Okimate 20. While I like the Okimate's images and color saturation, the time for a print is pretty slow and the number of prints per ribbon is small (for full size color images). I want to use the Quadjet for rough copy and the Okimate 20 for final images. Thanks, Scott Sutherland sutherla@qtp.ufl.edu
