My hardframe gets a 000k/sec transfer rate with my ST296N. In fact, the installation software gurus at the 2nd (high level?) format. According to Microbotics, there is a problem with a certain revision of the ST296N ROM that absolutely will not work with their controller. Unfortunately, I wound up waiting through the warrantee period for the controller while waiting for replacement disk drives. (I've been told it's _possible_ that the controller itself _may_ have trashed the disk drives. Yes, I tested them on other machine/controller combinations to verify the drives had died.) So now I have a fast controller and a fast (at least compared to my old ST506) disk drive. Unfortunately, they refuse to work together, although both work when not combined with each other. :-b If anyone knows the lowdown on this combination, please email. (e.g. Which ROM revs _do_ work?) My old 40MB ST506 is still chugging away, but it's noisy and I use my Amiga for music among other things. Other suggestions, (like which to replace with what) are welcome. If this is old hat, please forgive me. We just started getting a full news feed. Thanks in advance, -- Chuck Phillips MS440 NCR Microelectronics Chuck.Phillips%FtCollins.NCR.com Ft.
