Now that everybody else has asked their questions about adding RAM to their brand-new A3000's, it's my turn: You can't mix static column and page-mode RAM. What is the (technical) difference? How much of a performance difference is there on the Amiga? Why? How much of a price difference is there? The ZIP sockets can take 256k x 4 or 1Mbit x 4 ZIPS (which you can not mix). Are the 1Mbit x 4 chips actually available? If not, when? Price? Two people have talked about adding their own RAM. Several times in the "Introducing the Commodore Amiga 3000" book, it is mentioned that fooling with your RAM will void your warrantee. Is the book lying, or did these folks just lose their warrantees? Actually, it would be annoying to spend $100 for RAM, only to drive 50 miles to the nearest authorized Commodore service center, so he can make my machine unavailable to me for a week while he charges me another $100 to do some work that he doesn't know how to do (I asked) and I do. Someone mentioned that ZIP's are not "notched". How do you know which way the chips should face? After booting, I get .95 meg chip ram, .25 meg fast ram. I assume that the fast ram is low because none of the OS is in ROM. Will I ever be able to get stuff on ROMs? How? When? A lot of stuff has problems in 2.0 (even WordPerfect is flaky, boo hoo). How will I get compatability with stuff that only runs on 1.3? Please E-mail (do not post). I will summarize and post answers, to make sure that I don't get any bad answers (like last time). | Dan Zerkle home:(805) 968-4683 work:687-0110 | | dz@cornu.ucsb.edu dz%cornu@ucsbuxa.bitnet ...ucbvax!hub!cornu!dz | | Snailmail: 6681 Berkshire Terrace #5, Isla Vista, CA 93117 | | Disclaimer: My fish are stupid. |
