[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] 1080 Monitor Help!

sysop@tlvx.UUCP (SysOp) (07/23/90)

I have a broken 1080 monitor. It's at a point where it looks like it's
not getting fixed, and this post is only after I'm running out of ideas.

I'll skip most of the story to save bandwidth, but I'm at the point where
2 coils were damaged, and Commodore doesn't carry those parts. Apparently
they're Toshiba parts, and I managed to find a distributor who had the
Horiz. Width coil (L403 in the schematic), but didn't have the adjacent
coil (H. Lin., L404). (The repair shop used something from another monitor
if I understood correctly.)

What happens is that the monitor displays the picture fine except that it's
(horizontally) too wide. In other words, you can't see the first and last
5 or so characters (col) on a screen, making it fairly useless. Is this caused
because the other coil needs to be replaced (in other words, replaced with
a proper Toshiba part #23222677)? If so, anyone know who I could call?
If not, how much is this thing worth in spare parts? (And, anyone want a
1080 service manual? :-) :-( )

If I can't get this fixed, I guess I'd like to get a multi-sync type of
monitor. Has anyone yet put together a list of monitors that work well
with the A3000 (in case I want to upgrade one of these days)?
