I have been attempting to get A-Squared's LIVE! 2000 board to work on my 3000 to no avail. I tried the board in two different slots (not the video slot, it doesn't go there) and got no results. When I attempt to access the board through Invision under 2.0 the system crashes and reboots. Under 1.3 I get a system error request "LIVE! BOARD NOT INSTALLED". I took the board out and put it in a 2000 and it works fine. The Invision software does appear to be running normally on the 3000. I contacted A-Squared and they said they hadn't tried it but they said Commodore has assured all developers that any board that works in a 2000 WILL work in the 3000. Then they told me to contact Commodore if I am having a problem. I tried to contact the Commodore Technical Divsion all day Thursday and Friday, all I got was either repeated busy signals or the phone would ring for 5 minutes and nobody would pick it up. However I have contacted Commodore about problems with a genlock and some software problems on the 3000 and everytime I call all they tell me is that they can't be responsible for 3rd party hardware or software and that I have to contact that company directly. So I expect if I ever do get through to Commodore that is the story I will hear once again. Does anyone have any suggestions about the LIVE! board. Or do you think I am just on a holding pattern until someone or other does something about it? ============================================================================== \ / \ \ / / Sean Schur \ \ / / \ \/ / USENET: schur@isi.edu \ /a\mpyr/ Compuserve: 70731,1102 \/ \ / ideo Plink: OSS259 \/ ==============================================================================

>I contacted A-Squared and they said they hadn't tried it but they said >Commodore has assured all developers that any board that works in a 2000 >WILL work in the 3000. Actually, what Commodore has assured the developers is that any correctly designed Zorro II board will work in the 3000. It is possible to design a board that works in the 2000 but, for some bug, doesn't work in the 3000. We have encountered a couple of these already, mainly due to bugs and misconceptions about how AUTOCONFIG is supposed to work. So far, these have been easily fixed by their developers. I don't know any specifics on the LIVE! board other than it failed to function on preliminary 3000s, as did several other boards. Those other boards now apparently work with no trouble. If you're having trouble with the LIVE! board, that may indicate a problem with LIVE! itself, not the A3000. Commodore certainly does their best to support 3rd party hardware, but even when we have a sample board, we can't necessarily find the problem. The original designers of any board are the folks who should be able to locate problems, and if the problems are Commodore's, we try to fix them as soon as possible. >Sean Schur \ \ / / -- Dave Haynie Commodore-Amiga (Amiga 3000) "The Crew That Never Rests" {uunet|pyramid|rutgers}!cbmvax!daveh PLINK: hazy BIX: hazy Get that coffee outta my face, put a Margarita in its place!
