[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Dying floppy drive...

   Help!

I have an Amiga 500, and the internal drive is acting funny. My system
includes a 1010 external and a GVP Impact 500 HD with 20 Meg drive. I also
lay claim to 4 Mb of RAM on my system (5 coming soon). With the arrival
of my HD, I bagan using a program called 'NoClick2' to stop my drives from
clicking when I don't use them. My HD is autobooting. I also have
VirusX v4.01 installed.

   The problems...

Sometimes, inserting a perfectly good, formatted disk (any disk from my
boxes) results in it being labelled 'DF0:BAD". Removing and re-inserting
the disk fixes the read problem.
Another problem is refusal to acknowledge a disk change, and I must
enter 'DiskChange DF0:' in the CLI for it to be recognized. Then it
doesn't remove the disk information after removal of the disk.
One more problem is that DF0: will sometimes 'latch onto' a particular
disk, and nothing I do will make it want to accept a different disk. All
I get is 'You must replace volume xxxxx in Drive 0!" system errors, even
if no processes are referring to that disk!
These problems have been getting worse over the span of the last month
or so (since I made some radical system changes like adding memory and a
hard drive).
My memory expansion all tests okay by their respective testing programs.
I have 2Mb installed on the Hard Drive controller, and 1 Meg installed on
a SIN 500 internal memory expansion device (plugs into CPU socket) capable
of supporting 2Mb. All jumpers are set correctly.
I've not had any GURU's over this problem, and I'd like to know what
demon has overtaken my Amiga. Being a student in the thick of residence and
tuition bills, I don't have any spare money to get the computer fixed
(the expansion devices were a planned upgrade with saved money on a very
tight budget). If there's anything I can do to fix it, I'd appreciate any
help.
