[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] 386 Bridgeboard

a429@mindlink.UUCP (Alykhan Virani) (08/20/90)

I posted a similar message a few weeks ago but did not recieve any feedback.
I'll try again and see if there is any response.

Q : Is is possible to add a 386 SX/DX accelerator to the 286 BB for 386
type performance. I have a need for a 386 type machine and do not want to
purchase another machine or wait for the 386 BB if it ever becomes
available.

P.S. I tried to install IBM OS/2 1.2 on the BB but couldn't even boot the
installation diskette. Has anyone else tried??

Alykhan.

Someone recently posted that this is possible and I believe gave the name
of a particular board. Also, I've been told Apollo (of all companies!)
sells an 80386 board that will work in an Amiga. (Requires a bridgeboard)

	Good luck!

Well, technically, yes. Although, I have an SX card in my AT slot, so it
would do my no good. I might upgrade if CBM produces am SX or DX card,
although the way Dave Haynie talks, we might see an SX card for Zorro II
machines, and DX card for Zorro III.

I have OS/2 1.1 on mine. You won't be able to use OS/2 2.0 on a 286
machine, fro what BYTE says.

I used a '386DX board, called the pc-elevATor, on the A2088 bridgecard for
awhile on loaner, and it worked like a champ. The installation software
even had an Amiga bridgecard option.

I was simply stating what would work good. And pointing out that the Amiga
bus isn't as tied to bridgecard vs. standalone PC performance as one might
expect. I don't personally have anything to do with BridgeCard development
at Commodore. And what I do know about the works in progress (which I
wouldn't tell here anyway) is sketchy at best, since that work is done at our
facility in Braunschewig, Germany.
