From: Dale.Amon@CMU-RI-FAS I forgot to mention. NERVA, as ground tested, had around 800 sec specific impulse. The SSME only have 450 sec. And this was not a LOW thrust engine like a SEPS. This was a real kick-in-the-buns interplanetary rocket engine.
