[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] amax II with gvp drives

dk3a+@andrew.cmu.edu (Daniel Kimberg) (09/23/90)

can anyone enlighten me as to how to format an amax partition using a
gvp hardcard? the gvp scripts (in reality and according to the docs)
won't format a partition named anything other than dhx:. but from the
amax manual and other things i've read, and from the fact that an
appropriate driver is included in the amax disk, i gather that gvp
products are supported and work. any help would be appreciated, as
nothing on the gvp or amaxii distribution disks seems much help.

dan

ps of course i'll call gvp tech support as soon as i can get through,
but i have a fairly immediate need for this info if i can get it.

First off, I'd recommend that you upgrade to version 3.x of
GVP's driver software. It includes a new prep-program that
allows non-DHx partition names. But you don't have to;
simply create a MountList entry like this one:

AMAX0: Device         = gvpscsi.device
       Unit           = 0
       Surfaces       = 6
       BlocksPerTrack = 37
       LowCyl         = 1
       HighCyl        = 369
#

Modify the parameters according to your needs, but *do*not*
change the "Device" line, EVEN THOUGH IT DOES NOT MATCH THE
OLD DRIVER'S NAME! Make sure the A-Max partition does not
overlap with the RDB or any of the Amiga partitions.

Mount the partition and start A-Max II - that's it!
