[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] The Eternal Question: Which monitor is the best?

First: Thanks to all the people who answered my question about a cable
       for the NEC 3D.  Lots of conflicting advice.  The Amiga I was
       going to buy had a stroke (stopped talking to the expansion
       slots) and naturally I didn't buy it.


Several people had unkind things to say about the NEC 3D; so now I am
looking for some net.wisdom: Which monitor IS the _BEST_?

My requirements are: good colors (I'm mostly interested in graphics, not text)
                     $600 max price (mail order)
                     compatability with likely future standards and
                       other machines/standards (VGA, etc)


I will summarize and post since this seems to be a perenial net.question.
