[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Hewlett Packard Thinkjet

a1520@mindlink.UUCP (Barry Fence) (10/16/90)

I have just picked up the printer above for a steal of a price in an auction.
Unfortunately, NOTHING came with it, not even a power cord!
On using it's self-test feature, it started printing and then faded out. The
jets must be clogged as there is plenty of ink in it. My questions are: Does
anyone have an old manual lying around that could tell me what the dip switches
in the back must be set to to communicate with the Amiga's serial port? How DO
you unclog the jets?
Does anyone have a printer driver for this printer? Thanks for listening...

Probably not.

I probably can't help here. I had a Thinkjet with a parallel port.

You buy a new head. They are cheap. Every time I thought my head was
clogged, it turned out to be out of ink. Even tho the blatter appears
to still have ink in it, it is probably out.

Use the one that comes with the Amiga.

The jets probably are note clogged, but you may need to "prime" the ink
cartridge. To do this, remove the cartridge, and push on the ink bladder
with a paper-clip until ink comes through the jets. Wipe off the excess
ink and replace the cartridge. If it stops working again, you probably
just need to replace the cartridge.

The best recommendation I can give you about the driver and configuration
for the switches would be to buy the 1.3 WB/KS upgrade. I believe on the
EXTRAS disk you will find the THINKJET Driver and also in the manual that
comes along with it, tells you how to set the switches. I don't have the
information here at work with me now.
And if the ink is giving you any problems, it's best to just replace the
ink cartridge, which contains the ink resevouir, plumbing, head and
everything. And it's cheap. (Try priming the cartridge first as stated
     in the first reply here).
