[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Maxtor XT-3280 drive

ssd@sugar.hackercorp.com (Scott Denham) (10/14/90)

Since I managed to semi-bungle the first attempt at posting this query,
I'll make it brief. I'd appreciate mail from anyone who has experience
with the Maxtor XT-3280 drive on an Amiga, particularly on an A-500 using
either the C-Ltd or Supra controller. Thanks!

It's easy enough to do with the Supra. just by a big enough box and
power supply to handle the 3280 and fire away. Supra has formatting software
that supports the Maxtor XT-3xxxS drives. I'm using my 3280 on the 3000, but
I sold at least one of the 3280s to someone using it with the Supra 500
controller.

Where did you get those 3280s? And how much did you sell them for? I have been
looking around for these drives for few weeks now. IME (Computer Shopper Oct90)
is selling them for $599 and $699 for used and new 3280s, respectively. What do
you think of them?
I will be using them on my A2000 with Supra WORDSYNC and 386/25 with Future
Domain.

The XT-3280S drives I was selling were a lot closer to $1000... but
that was almost two years ago! They were refurbished drives I originally
bought from a local distributer who got them from ADP, I think.
I really like mine. It's been a real workhorse for me for the last
couple of years. It's a much noisier drive than the newer XT-4380S that I
had hooked up a couple of weeks ago though.
