[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Lucas 68881 problems

STX@VAX1.MANKATO.MSUS.EDU (11/08/90)

Well, great. I have my new lucas board and it works with my
machine...with one small exception. Nothing recognizes the 68881. When I try
to run mandelfast(a program that utilizes the 68881) the machine crashes. Also
when I ran the different benchmarks there was only a small increase in speed
nowhere even close to what it was supposed to be.
Reading through the paperwork that I got with the board I found a letter from
Brad Fowles in response to an apparant query by the original owner. The letter
was about the lack of the 68881. In it he (Brad) suggested that he thought the
problem might be with a short or an open in the datalines. He goes on to
suggest that once you build the Frances board the problem could probably be
pinpointed by using the addram program. Well I have the Frances board but it
won't be functional until I get winter quarters financial aid. I would like to
have the 68881 before then however. This is a general query to all you
Lucas/Frances builders out there. Did any of you have this problem? In the
paperwork there is a lot said about the fact that this is one of the earliest
releases of the board. The Lucas board is Rev 3, July 88.
(I have looked for obvious shorts or opens on the board and have found nothing)

Also does Brad ever read this newsgroup? I E-mailed him but never got a
response.

        Thanks in advance
