[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Time's gone wrong!

kgs@cunixb.cc.columbia.edu (Kok G Sang) (11/11/90)

A friend of mine just replaced his broken A2000 power supply and now he's
encountering strange problems. First of all, he can't click open his hard
drive or any disk icon. The computer freezes on him after a few attempts.
This happens even when he doesn't boot from his hard drive but from any
workbench disk. He gets around this problem by using the shell. Menu
operation does not seem to be affected.

The second and possibly related problem is that whenever he types the
'date' command he gets a different date everytime. The computer also can't
track elapsed time (he uses azcomm to transfer files to his school account).
There's also a longer delay between rebooting and the disk-hand icon
appearing (the LED light blinks as if computer crashed). He spoke with the
local amiga service store but he's worried that they're going to charge
him an arm and a leg.

Has anyone experienced these problems and might know where the problem lies?
He's hoping he can replace the problem chips (?) by himself.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.
