tbr@bnet.UUCP (The Black Raven) (11/19/90)
I currently have a ST-296N hard drive. (810 tracks, 34 blocks per track,
80-85meg SCSI.) Originally I was running a ST-157N (900+ tracks, 17 blocks
per track, 46-48meg SCSI) on a Phoenix Technologies SCSI controller. When
I switched over to the new drive and I set up my mountlist as 34 blocks per
track and then low-level format the drive, AmigaDOS 1.3.2 FORMAT will not
format the drive. It gets to track 0, the computer freezes with the hard
drive activity light on and you have to shut the computer off to get the
drive back.
I have been running the 296N with 17bpt and 1620 tracks. However, the hard
drive gets repeated "Volume TBR has a read/write error" (TBR: being the hard
drive) until I boot up and get a "Disk in drive 0 not a DOS disk" error. I
then have to re-format the drive and start over.
Should I a) get a new controller (if so whose?)
or b) what?
Thank you. I run a BBS so this is a major inconvenience.
