Perhaps this information will be useful to someone ... I recently installed the GVP FaastROM upgrade onto my trusty GVP Impact 2000-HC hardcard. Unfortunately, when daisy-chaining a slow-to-spin-up drive like the Seagate ST-277N onto a fast drive like the Quantum 40S, I discovered that the GVP FaastROM would not recognize the 277N at system power-up. For a time, I simply performed a warm reboot, since the 277N was by then churning away. I called GVP and spoke to Pete in Technical Support. He told me how to get around this inconvenience. Here's how to do it step by step: 1. Change the SCSI ID of the 277N to 0 (remove the jumper on the SCSI ID block). Save the jumper for use on the 40S. 2. Change the SCSI ID of the 40S to 1 (place a jumper at A0 on the SCSI ID jumper block). This requires removing the drive from the hard card. You may have to trim a bit off the top of the jumper, if you use the one from the 277N, to make it fit after the drive is reattached to the controller card. 3. Reinstall the hardcard. 4. Using FaastPrep's "Manual Installation" mode, set the BootPri of the 277N to -10 (it is probably defaulted at -5). You need to set it lower than the 40S which is also defaulted at -5. 5. Next, check off the LUN box for the 277N (not the Last Disk box). 6. Now select WRITE to write the new information to the disk. 7. Reboot! By vthe way, you do not need any mountlist entries for the scsi devices when using the FaastROM upgrade. Neither do you have to mount the devices in your startup-sequence. -- /\ /\ //\\//\\ +---------^^^^------------------^^^^---------+ | From the shack of WA1OMM -- Paul MacDonald | | Using the power of the multitasking Amiga! | | | | Compuserve: 70411,626 PLink: UPPERCRUST | | Amateur Packet Radio: WA1OMM@KB4N.NH.USA | | Usenet: ...virgin!ubbs-nh!wa1omm!paul | +--------------------------------------------+ /\ / /\ (~ / / / / /\ /\ / / / / V /~~\ _) /~/ /_/ /~~\ , / V /~/
