I installed 8 of what were supposed to be 1Mx4-80SC zips in my A3000 yet when WB comes up it only shows 1MB - (kickram + buffers). Since I was replacing 256Kbx4 zips (I moved the dips & put in some zips a few months ago) I'm sure I put the new ones in the correct slots etc etc. Stupidity mode on (:-{ Since the tube and the packing list said 1Mx4-80 SC I didn't write down the chip part numbers except to notice they were NECs. The box is closed up at home so I can't give the part no.s now either... Stupidity Node Off (hopefully). Anyway, is it *possible* for either a (1) chip to be bad or even to be seated incorrectly and the system come up at all? (I *thought* 8 1MBx4 chips made up just one bank meaning "all on or all off"). I'd like a response today (if possible)... Thanks in advance -- ADMS - not a dbms you're likely to run into every day (Unless of course you want process time on one of *OUR* machines...)

I don't have a 3000 or manual handy but isn't there a jumper that is supposed to be changed to indicate whether or not you are using 1x4's or 256x4's? If you don't change the memory sizing jumper on the A3000 motherboard, a 1Mx4 part will be treated as a 256Kx4 part. I don't know the jumper number offhand, it's 800-something, and it's mentioned in your A3000 manual (if you don't feel like digging around for it, it's in the jumper list on the first schematic page in the back of the manual). -- Dave Haynie Commodore-Amiga (Amiga 3000) "The Crew That Never Rests" {uunet|pyramid|rutgers}!cbmvax!daveh PLINK: hazy BIX: hazy ONLY 230 MILES TO GO
