I am about to purchase a Deskjet (I am getting a good price on the original Deskjet from my local dealer) but I would like some comments on whether I should get the plus or 500 instead. I have bought the DJHelper software in anticipation I envisage using Professional Page 1.3 and Transcript for most of my printing requirements DJHelper looks real good form the screens and docs. The speed is a little faster, and somewhat more quieter. If you can get a good price get the 500. I got mine for 549.00 and it was well worth it. One more thing, I think that the 500 does landscaping while the plus doesn't. I would opt for the Deskjet Plus. The improvements on the 500 only benefit MS-DOS computer owners. The things that matter to an Amiga owner are identical, except that the Plus will have the older smearable ink, something you can easily rectify after your first cartridge. Definetly do not buy the original Deskjet though.
