[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Adding a second internal drive

fmcphers@VTTCF.CC.VT.EDU (Frank McPherson) (12/04/90)

Regarding the post of culhane@vis.toronto.edu:

I've got an Amiga 3000 to which I've added a second internal hard drive. So,
Yes, it can be done. (The 2000 has 2 internal 3-1/2 inch bays, right?)
However, the bay you'll need to mount it in, I think, is designed as a floppy
bay. You'll have to drill a few new holes in the mounting bracket, you'll have
to make a splitter for internal power cable, and you'll have to get a scsi
extender cable to get to the second drive. At least, that's what I had to
have done. I didn't feel like doing it myself, so I turned it in to the local
computer dealer. Cost me fifty bucks. So, unless you LIKE mucking about with
the stuff I've mentioned, you either get the internal drive and only save
fifty bucks, or take the loss and get the external case.
Something else you should take in to consideration: Is it likely that you're
going to require another drive before you get rid of the computer? If so,
why not just go ahead and get an external case with 2 or 3 bays? After the
initial investment, you could just add another drive when you need it, this
time only paying the price for the internal versions.

Hope this helped. Email me if you've got more specific questions you think I
might be able to help you with.
