[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] A2000 KEYBOARD PROB.

bill.young@canremote.uucp (BILL YOUNG) (11/04/90)

My Rev. 4.x A2000 and HiTek keyboard has a problem - the first character
I type disappears when I reboot my machine. In Flake Report II they
mention a quick hack to hardware fix the problem but I really don't want
to attempt this. Does anyone know if there's a software hack solution
to it? I've been recommended DH's SETCPU but it doesn't seem to work
(only Cherry keyboards perhaps?). Any enlightenment would be
appreciated... :)

BTW, could someone send me some PRIVATE mail please? Not sure if this
address of mine is functional... thanks!

You might check the list of commonly asked questions for these groups. I
found them at one time, and they had already been removed. My system has
always had that problem, though. Maybe I don't have the HiTek keyboard?
It has the filled/empty 'A's for the amiga keys, instead of the C=
symbol. Do I need to put caps back in my motherboard?

Sean

The correct fix (from Commodore) for the rev 4.2/HiTek missing
character problem is to remove those two caps. Any reputable Amiga service
center can do it for you. It's a very simple mod, you basicly just break
the caps off where their leads join the circuit board. The SetCPU fix is
for the timing problems with the earier cherry keyboards, and is a software
fix to a firmware problem. That's completely different than what you're
seeing.

I'm using a 2000 keyboard (with adapter) on my A1000. AND am having the same
'first' keystroke problem. It seems to actually lockup the '64 emulator II'
software that I have. Sometimes, hitting the caps-lock will let the program
run (but not always).

I missed the information concerning the removal of some (two) caps as a 'fix'
for the 'first' keystroke problem.

WHAT are those capacitors, where are they, and does removing them really help?

Thanks - Jim 8')s <- personalized smiley face. w/ beard. Aites.
