Although I normally run with an A1010 and an A1020 on my 1000, when I take it to club copy sessions I often hook up two 1010s to it (I added a jumper to my 1010 so it would pass power). You probably wouldn't want to try this with a 500, but the 1000's power supply is up to it. I've never had any problems, nor heard of anyone who did. I've got an A1000 with an external A1010 3.5" floppy and an external A1020 5.25" floppy, and it'd be really convenient to have a little more nonvolatile storage. The pamphlet that came with the A1010 says that only one externmal drive may be connected, due to power supply limitations; the A1020 gets around this by having its own supply built in. It seems that people are using multiple external floppies. Are these lower power than the A1010? How many can I string out there? Do any come with their own power supplies? Are there any addressability problems? Any problems with using the A1020 with any of these schemes? Thanks. -- -- Jeff (martens@cis.ohio-state.edu) "Until you stalk and overrun, you can't devour anyone" -- Hobbes.

I've been running my A-1000 with a 1010 and two California Access CA-880 drives for many months now with no problems whatsoever. The system is used to do multiple copies of Fred Fish disks (Thanks Fred!) for our club so all four drives will be running for hours. The system also has the Amazing Computing 1-meg memory hack which draws a little more power than the stock A-1000. If I want to do any genlocking with the A-1300, then I will plug in a seperate power supply for the drives. This may not be needed, but since I have the extra power supply, why take chances. Hope this helps.
