Can someone tell me where I can get a fairly complete synopsis of the Lucas board and what it takes to create and install it? My brother has an A1000 and I thought this might be the next step in expansion for him, but not if it is too complex. -- ==================================================================== David Masterson Consilium, Inc. I think you can find it in abcfd20.larc.nasa.gov under usenet/comp.sources.amiga/volume2/hardware and files lucas[1-xx].Z Though, what I would like to know is how to get in touch with the creator of Lucas, and if somebody knows anything about the Frances, memory expansion board.

Well I bought a Lucas board that had already been built. It also came with the the Frances blank board and the Frances pals. The Lucas board is a 68020/68881 accelerator(sp) board and will work without the Frances. The Frances board can't be used without the Lucas. It is a 32 bit memory board that will allow you to install up to four megs of 32bit ram in one meg increments. When you get the boards from Brad Fowles you just get the bare boards and some pals that go with them. Building them requires a LOT of soldering basically just soldering the pins into holes. In addition to the purchase of the boards themselves you will have to buy the 68020 as well as the 68881 and misc. other electronic components (and lots 'o sockets) The instructions are pretty straight forward but if you don't know how to solder this may not be for you. Once you get the board made installing it is fairly simple. You take the amiga apart to the extent that you can get to the 68000. Then you plug the lucas/frances into it. There is software that comes with it that allows you to configure it to your workbench. The speed of the Lucas board varies in accordance with the type of crystal you have installed. They made with the intention of using a 16mhz crystal but mine is using a 20mhz without any problem and I have a friend with the same configuration and his amiga has been running at that speed rock solid for well over a year. The Lucas/Frances board is a proven accelerator for the A1000 and the 32bit Frances board is a very reliable and FAST memory addition. I never got around to building my Frances board. Couldn't get the time or the money to do it. Acouple of my friends have it and the combination of accelerator and 32bit memory really makes the 1000 a FAST machine to work with. Compatability with other hardware is alright (I posted to the net when I first got it and got a lot of responses about different things that worked with it.) All in all if it wasn't for the fact that I am going to be purchasing an A3000 in the near future I would keep it but I am going back to the 68000 in my A1000 to have a machine that will be compatable with all the old games that I love that broke the rules and won't work under 2.0(or with a 68020) . Speaking of 2.0 I have heard that the Rejuvinator board will work with the Lucas/Frances combo. Sooooo I am selling my built up Lucas as well as my blank Frances board. I would like to get $200.00 for the combo.
