"every Apple mouse I've ever used has been really grungy. They
all felt like somebody took out the little ball, dipped it in rubber
cement,
 and put in back in."

I just pop the ball out every few days, blow on it and the mouse hard
enough to knock the dust off, pick all the cat hairs off, and pop it back
in. My mouse still runs the smoothest of any I know, despite being more
than three years old. A little preventive maintenance goes a long way.

 "the Mac mouse
pointer catches up with the mouse position in one big jump about 1/2
second
 after you've moved it there."

Just want to point out that this is a dirt problem, and not hardware
or software related. :-)
