[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Problems with Rodime 210 Cobra and 2091.

tim@mnetor.UUCP (Tim Desjardins) (12/22/90)

I'm having increadibly weird problems trying to get a Rodime 210 Cobra to work
with my 2091.

It seems I can read all the information of the drive with the HDTOOL, but I
can't to a Low Level Format. Normally it starts formatting, and after a minute
it the voice coil goes crazy and starts makeing this siren sound ( no kidding,
it sounds like a police siren ). At this point the drive light stays on and does
nothing else, I can't nerve pinch the machine at this point to reboot the system
just stays on the initial white reboot screen. I have to turn the machine off
to get the drive to respond. I can partition the drive and the cahnges are saved
to the drive. I can not save the bad block disk to the drive the machine hangs.
I have the mountlist set up correctly. I set jumper 5 optin 2 pin to on but that
has no effect. Before this drive I had a Rodime 5180S or 1400RX a 140 meg drive
connected to my 2091, but it died an ugly death a few months ago ( this might
have screwed my 2091 as a thought ). Verifying the media consistently turns up
a RIGID BLOCK ERROR IN BLOCK 139 or 158!. Also, just trying to format the drives
using format from dos results in a format failure. I've also moved the boards
around to various slots but no success.

This sounds like an unsolvable problemm but I thought I'd see if any
hardware gurus had any advice. I plan to test this drive out on my friends Mac
soon as he gets back from vacation.

    Heres my set up:
Amiga 2500 rev 4.4 motherboard an original 2500
A2090A Rodime 503 st506 40 meg drive SCSI slot is dead on this board
as far as I can tell. Result of a bad cable
a real asshole made for me.
    A2901 Revision 4.0.MODIFIED, ROMS V 5.92
