[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Bomarc tower case ???

rang@ics.uci.edu (Roger Penaranda Jr. Ang) (12/28/90)

In some ads in AmigaWhirled, I've seen mail order places
listing this item. I want to know exactly what is the Bomarc tower
case? Is it a new case for your 2000 or (hopefully, but it's a long
shot) 500?
I'm still interested in putting my 500 in a new case
w/detached keyboard. Does anyone know if the A500 mother board will
fit inside a 1000 case? Anyone know if that European case called the
1500 is available in the U.S. yet?

The VP of our local Amiga club has put an A-500 motherboard into an
A-1000 case. He also installed two 7/8" high floppy drives where the
original drive was. He calls it his Amiga 750.

In order to do this, he had to cut about 3/4" off the right side of the
A-500 motherboard and jumper over any cut traces. None of the I/O ports
on the motherboard line up on the back panel so he just cut a long slot
in the back of the case. He is using the A-1000 keyboard but it is not
fully compatable, he cannot reboot with CTRL-AMIGA-AMIGA, but has to cycle
power. The A-1000 power supply was retained. The 512k memory board
can't be installed so he had to hack in an above the motherboard memory
expansion. Forget about any sort of expansion bus as the connector is
next to the power supply.

There are a (few) other bits of weirdness about this machine but they
escape me at the moment.
All in all, it seems to be an awful lot of work for very little gain.
