Here's a question for the European readers: I was just in Switzerland and picked up January's issue of M&Ts "Amiga". I am currently doing a lot of assembler programming on the Amiga and am in bad need of a working and effektive debugger. I am using Devpac and I personally think its debugger has bugs. So what do I see in the magazine around page 36? An add for Amiga Action Replay Version 2.0 for 219 DM. For those of you reading that have never heard of AAR, it is a Freezer cartridge with several functions. What can AARV2 do? According to the add... * Freeze and save the running program to disk. Works with up to 2 megs of RAM and also with 1MB Chip. Saves them as AmigaDOS files that can be run without AARV2. This feature could be misused I guess .... * Trainer and Unlimited Lives Creator. They say this can be done without programming knowledge. Could be cute for some of my action games. * Improved Sprite Editor. You can view and modify entire sprites. Neat. * Virus Detector. Kind of stupid since new ones come out "daily" and this is a Hardware protector ... so I wonder ... better than nothing for sure. If this one detects more or the same number of viruses as VirusXs newest version then it is quite cute since it is HW. * Save Sound and Pictures. This allows you to save soundsamples and pics found in memory to disk as IFF. Ripping Ripping Ripping ... Copyright problems here ... well for private use? * Slowmotionmode ... run you programs at down to half speed ... * Continue... allows you to continue execution of frozen/halted programs. * Computer Status Display. Gives info on drives and mem etc... * Bootselector. You can determine from which dfx: to boot. * Picture Editor. Find, View and powerfully modify pictures in memory. Over 50 useful commands ... cute ... personalize your programs. How about this. Draw a picture in DPaint and while drawing, edit it from AARV2! * Music Sound Tracker ... find and save modules from memory .. ripper .. * AutoFire. Set the autofire rate on both joystick ports. * DiskCoder. Protect your disks with a password. Encryption. * Disk Monitor. No Comment. * StartMenu. Allows you to customize the AARV2 environment. * DOS Commands. Execute Amiga DOS Commands. * DiskCopy. Faster than doscopy. * Debugger/Monitor - 80chars 2way scrolling display - Complete MC68000 Assembler/Disassembler - Fullscreen Editor - Load/Save Block - Write String to Memory - Jump to Address - Display RAM in ASCII - Display Frozen Picture - Play resident Sample - Display and Modify all CPU Registers and Flags - Calculator - Help - Search Features - The one and only CustomChipEditor. Allows Viewing and Modification of all Custom Chip Registers even READONLY (?). - NotePad - DiskInfo. Current Position and Status. - Dynamic BreakPoint Handling - Display Memory in all Formats. - Copper Assembler/Disassembler * NOTE: Thanks to the Freezing all registers are completely untouched. Important for powerful debugging .... no .... really. Version 2.0 is contained within 128K. Price for A500/1000 Version 189DM Price for A2000 is 219DM For Info Fax to +31-8380-32146 EuroSystems in Holland I believe. or phone I thing is +31-85-516565 Address: EuroSystems Postbus 1 79 6710 BD Fde Holland No clue about address or phone ... ----------------------------------------------------- Well so much for the add. Seems to me like because it has some nice features such as the debugger and the diskcoder and diskmonitor and since it is burned into a cartridge which plugs into expansion in A500/1000, it could be worthwhile buying. Sure some features seem stupid but some could be useful when programming ... My question is .... WILL IT WORK ON MY AMIGA!!!!????? I have an Amiga 2000 (NTSC) with Kick1.3 1MB Chip and A2630. This means 2 MB 32-Bit and 1MB Chip. Will it work with this config? Who knows .... please email to jlehmann@wpi.wpi.edu Thanks. The 1.0 version had no through-port which made it much less valuable to A500 owners. Check out Nordic Power too. /Jorgen -- ******************************************************************************* email dvljhg@cs.umu.se - other ways to communicate are a waste of time. I managed to find out the number and name of those who distribute AmigaActionReplayV2.0 in USA (Coast2CoastTechnologies) and called them. The guy from Tech support says since the product goes into the CPUSlot on the 2000 it is not compatible with the A2630 accelerator. Too bad. Seemed like a nice debugging tool.
