[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Dead A1000 keyboard

jmarra@cbnewsl.att.com (john.c.marra) (12/28/90)

My Amiga 1000 keyboard died when someone tried to use it as
a keybord for their terminal. (without my consent! :-( )
How much should this cost to be repaired?
Should I just buy a whole new keyboard? Can I mail-order this?

Thanks,

I do not think that it is possible to purchase an A1000 keyboard any
more since the last A1000 trade-up offer expired (the keyboard was
needed to perform the trade-up to the A2000). But you CAN buy
the A2000 keyboard and an adapter... it works great. I think
that GO AMIGO (the mail order house.... check Amiga World) has the
keyboard and adapter ready to go....

But on the repair side of things... if there is an Amiga Repair
shop at a local dealer, they might be able to give you a quote
for a repair that might be a lot cheaper. Most shops seem to
charge between $40-$50 an hour shop time.... Figure one hour
on the repair to be on the safe side and between $5-$30 for parts
(just a wild guess) and you could come away between $45 and $80 as
a conservitive estimate... you could actually get away spending
much less if the damage is restricted to one part and it is easy
to locate/replace..... only one way to find out.

	Good luck, -Mike-

Look in Amiga World at the Creative Computing ad (I think thats the name of
the company, it was a 3 or 4 page add, I am doing this from memory). One
of the things listed is an A1000 keyboard for around $65. I hope this helps.
