I've got this problem with my internal-drive: Some time ago I started to get read-errors on a lot of discs. It became more and more frequent and now I can't even boot my A500. When I try, the machine reads for some seconds and then I either get the "hand" again or a "Not a dos disc." message. Please help me! I haven't been able to use my Amiga for two weeks! -- Fredrik Rothamel Fidonet 2:204/117 frix@hexagon.se ...!sunic!kullmar!pkmab!hexagon!frix "1000 million Red Chinese don't give a shit" - Confucious (?)

Howdy, I too had similar problems with my A500 internal drive; some copy protected games would crash, and other times I would get Read/Write errors. For a long time I thought that my drive was misaligned, but one day when I took the cover off, I discovered that the problems were caused by interference from the monitor. If the monitor was several inches away from the disk drive, everything was working fine, however when I moved it closer I started getting Read/Write errors. To solve the problem, I put 2 or 3 sheets of aluminum foil over the disk drive to act as a shield from the monitor interference. After I put the case back on and put the monitor on the back of my A500, I did not get a single Read/Write error, and the games that used to crash worked without any problems. To quickly check if you have the same problem, turn your monitor off and load the game that usually crashes. After the disk drive light goes out, turn the monitor back on and see if the game is running or crashed. Blaise
