Well, my A1000 which has been working flawlessly for over 5 years finally died, sort of. I don't have the schematics (or much test equipment), and I'm a bit low on cash right now. I'd appreciate it if anyone who dealt with a similar problem could make a suggestion (or tell me which chip caused it in their case). Here are the symptoms : Turn the power on, and it asks for the kickstart disk. Put in the kickstart disk, and it reads it fine. It then does the 3 shade screen flash thing (like normal), then tries to access the drive for the workbench disk. If there's a disk in the drive, the light goes on, and the computer locks up (it never changes track). If there is no disk in the drive, it clicks once, and never displays the insert workbench picture. I tried kickstarting with ver 1.1 in case it was an autoconfig problem, it does the same thing. It isn't related to any external components either. It does the same thing when everything except the monitor is disconnected. My guess is that it's probably some single chip, or perhaps a problem on the daughterboard. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Please reply via email if possible.
