[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] a500 Ram info

an353@cleveland.Freenet.Edu (Adam Benjamin) (01/12/91)

With all the competition over RAM boards for the 500 why are they still so
darn expensive??? if they are 0K populated, what else is on there?
sorry, had to gripe a bit..
reply publicly to the above, but email me the following if you will...
I am looking for info on expaning my older type A500 with over 1Meg
of Ram. I own the 501, but that seems to get smaller all the time 8)
Drop me note with the following :
Memory size, RAM type and size, where the board goes, and of course $$
I am especially interested in 0K units and kits since I can get RAM cheap.
Is it possible to get a 0K installed unit for under $80.?
Also send my your HORROR stories, boards/companies to avoid.
I'll summarize if I get enough responses (if anyone else cares?)

  Adam B

I am intending to build a series of memory expansion boards to suit
amiga's. However they must be a minimum of 2 megs each. I need info on the
a501 memory expansion capabilities, in order to construct a circuit to suit.
I intend on selling the boards at all levels, with an entry price of $50AU
for 0k thru to to $250AU for 2Meg version. It also includes clock and a
touchon/touchoff memory disable switch +backup battery.

The boards will contain simm sockets and current limiting data/address
resistors. Power on smd led. battery and clock. I would like to build an 8meg
board for the a501, however, custom firmware may be required to ensure effective
bank switching. This would have to be done by an amiga programmer that is
farmiliar with the amiga's memory maps and access technique. Otherwise a
simple software patch could be created and loaded buring startup.

Anyway. If you have any idea's, I would be very interested in hearing
them. I have completed the schematics and board layouts for most boards, but
can be simply changed at the press of a key, so any idea's let me know.
Hopefully I will send out a heap for beta testing to those who express
interest in manufacturing good idea's at an everybody's price.
