If I recall correctly, Jackie Coogan's main claim to fame (or notoriety, at least) was his inspired role in--The Addam's Family. He was Uncle Fester. --- Michael Turner (ucbvax!ucbesvax.turner)

While Jackie Coogan is certainly best well-known to the post-war generation as Uncle Fester, his most lasting impact comes from his years as a wildly successful child actor (as "the kid"), in which his parents squandered the fortune he made. It was as a result of this that stringent laws were passed putting most of the income of child actors into trust until their majority (so that they can squander it ;-). -- Darrel J. Jackie Coogan's greatest claim to fame was *NOT* his role in the Addams Family tv series. It was the California law (known as the Coogan Act) which requires independent legal review of child performers' contracts and resulted from Coogan's bankruptcy at a tender age when his mother and step-father "mishandled" the funds Coogan received as one of the first child movie stars.
