[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Alegra 2 meg woes

poirier@ellerbe.rtp.dg.com (Charles Poirier) (01/25/91)

(Sorry for posting this; mail bounced)

The Alegra is no longer being sold, true. But you possibly can still
get the ROM or PAL or whatever to drive 2 Megs. I did this about
a year and a half ago, and they told me then that they didn't sell the
main unit but did honor the upgrade offer. I don't recall whether "they"
were still Access Associates or some holding company.

So, if you haven't tried to contact them, you should do so.

	Good luck,

Thanks for the reply. Even though it bounced on you my ever-so-kind sysop
here at Amiganet was able to fish it out for me and notify me of its location
and i was able to read it.

Would it be possible to post the PAL numbers. If it is a generic part, I can
order it throug a local parts distributor. I don't know too much about PAL's,
and I am not sure if that type of chip would be Proprieta or not. I hope it is
not proprietary, because I have tried contacting Access Associates with no
Luck!

The PALs are the identical device as the 512K PALs.

PAL stands for Programmable Array Logic (which is a registered trademark of
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., BTW). The thing that makes the 512K PALs
different from the 2M PALs is the program that was burned into the fuses
on it. You can buy the blank PALs but they will not function properly until
they have been programmed with the correct logic functions.
