I recently installed the Rejuvenator in my A1000. It has the 1-Meg Agnus and new Denise, but no Kickstart Rom (I still boot from Kickstart disk). It is set up to autoconfig the 512k of motherboard Ram as fast Ram (actually Kickstart is loaded into 256k and 256k is available as fast Ram). I have J101 and J102 ON. This all works fine. Now I am trying to install an Insider II memory board with 1 1/2 Meg of additional fast Ram. With the Insider II installed, the machine boots fine unless I try to addmem the new memory. The addmem command always fails with either a Guru 4 or the message "Clearing memory. memory location is bad. addmem not performed." I have the 4 dip switches on the Insider II set as follows: Switch 1 - OFF Switch 2 - OFF Switch 3 - ON Switch 4 - ON. I also have the red jumper clip attached to pin 7 of PALN90 on the Rejuvenator. I have tried the following addmem commands, all of which fail: addmem 800000 83FFFF addmem 800000 87FFFF addmem 800000 97FFFF addmem 800000 980000 addmem F00000 F3FFFF addmem F00000 F7FFFF I have also tried just addmem'ing small quantities of memory, such as addmem 800000 8000FF which comes back successful, and then guru's the machine. I also tried removing the jumpers from J101 and J102 on the Rejuvenator, which suppresses the autoconfig of motherboard Ram, and changed switch 2 of the Insider to ON, enabling autoconfig of the Insider memory. When I did this, Kickstart would load but Workbench would not. My guess is there is something wrong with the red jumper clip connection. HELP: does anyone have experience with this configuration that can offer suggestions? Am I doing something wrong in the setup, or is it possible that a memory chip is bad? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Dave Miller Sandia National Labs Albuquerque, New Mexico 87185 (505) 846-5615 intvax!miller@unmvax.cs.unm.edu miller@intvax!unmvax.cs.unm.edu
